Super Eagles Get N24million Despite WAFU Cup Final Defeat
The home-based Super Eagles received $65,5000(about N24million), despite losing 4-1 to Ghana, in the final of this year’s west African Football Union (WAFU) cup.
The black Stars were paid the Ultimate star prize of $100,000(about N36million) offered by Fox Sports, sponsors of the two-week WAFU cup tournament. However a breakdown of the prize money outlay, shows that the first place prize was $50,000.
Meanwhile Republic that defeated Benin Republic 2-1 got the third –placed prize of $25,000. The squirrels of Benin got $10, 000 as the fourth place finished team.
In addition to the prizes for the final and the losers final, all teams got participation fees of $15,000 each and the four semi-final losing teams got $10,000 each,while the four second –round losers were consoled with $5,000 each.
